A native of Liverpool, Ansdell made a successful career recording local sporting and country life until he left for London in 1847. The Waterloo Cup shows the famous coursing event held on the Sefton Estate at Altcar near Liverpool. Among those represented are the Earl and Countess of Sefton and many local dignitaries and sporting characters.
