This powerful large-scale photograph was taken on the site of the World Trade Centre (known as 'Ground Zero') in the immediate aftermath of the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on New York, when the artist was working as an assistant to the official disaster photographer. It was presented to the gallery jointly by the artist and Anthony d'Offay. It will be a key part of the gallery's contemporary photography collection which includes works from ARTIST ROOMS by Diane Arbus, Robert Mapplethorpe and Francesca Woodman. ARTIST ROOMS was a large collection owned jointly by Tate and National Galleries Scotland through The d'Offay Donation with assistance from the National Heritage Memorial Fund and the Art Fund in 2008.
