September - Writing Historical Fiction
- Sat 26 Sep - 11am
- Sun 27 Sep - 5pm
This workshop will consider the elements that make successful historical fiction and how you make that slice of history come alive.
October - From Cosy Cottage to Creepy Castle – How do you create a realistic home for your characters?
- Sat 24 Oct - 11am
- Sun 25 Oct - 5pm
This workshop will provide ideas for evoking atmospheric dwellings, which may not be all that they seem. A remote Scottish croft, a chilly apartment, or a gothic mansion? The choice is yours!
November - In your Element – How does weather affect atmosphere and behaviour in a story?
- Sat 28 Nov - 11am
- Sun 29 Nov - 5pm
From windswept moor to rain-lashed coast, weather adds another dimension to a story. This session considers harnessing everything from heatwaves to blizzards and how these affect both plot and character.
January - Turning Fact into Fiction – How do you recycle ‘real life’ events into brand new stories?
- Sat 30 Jan - 11am
- Sun 31 Jan - 5pm
Are there things in your own life which you’d like to write about, but with the freedom to edit and embellish? Or could you rewrite your own version of historical events? This session will suggest ideas on how to select from all that raw material and progress your writing project.
