Collecting Impressionism and and Post-Impressionism in the UK and abroad

Talk | The Wallace Collection

Thursday 19 June 2014 - 14:30 until 15:30

Had it not been for collectors such as Sir Hugh Lane and Samuel Courtauld in London, Sir William Burrell and Sir Alexander Maitland in Scotland, and the Davies sisters in Wales, French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting would be ill-represented in British public collections. This lecture by Colin Harrison explores why wealthy collectors were eager to embrace ‘the avant-garde’.

This event has been organised by the London Events Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
