Lecture: 'Battoni, Mengs and the Grand Tour Portrait' - a lecture by Dr. Tom Duncan

Almost all Grand Tourists of the eighteenth century sat to have their portrait painted. Their first choice was either Pompeo Battoni or Anton Mengs, the leading exponents of the genre in Rome. The lecture will recreate the world inhabited by these men, their competitors and their patrons.
