Viennese Grand Piano

Jacob Bertsche, 1821

This six-octave piano is a fine example of the Viennese fortepiano of the 1820s, the decade of Beethoven's and Schubert's maturity. The Bertsche piano is in good playing order and has a beautiful and individual tone. It provides an authentic voice for the keyboard works of Beethoven, Schubert, Hummel and Weber, the five pedals giving a range of effects that were familar to them.
