Vessel escutcheon
Unknown artist, c. 50BC–50AD

D-shaped plate integrally cast with a clasp-like collar and a suspension loop. The plate is decorated with a design of two trumpet coils which curve around a pair of circular voids giving the impression of an anthropomorphic or zoomorphic face. The curvature of the plate suggests the escutcheon was mounted on a large globular vessel such as a cauldron.
