Two Roman gold Imperial aurei
Unknown artist, 1) 15–16 AD; 2) 75 AD
One coin was minted in Lyon, then capital of Gaul, and the other in Rome. Both were part of a hoard which was deposited near the Roman fort at Wall, south Staffordshire, sometime after 75 AD. They are fine examples of portraiture and craftsmanship, showing clear likenesses of the Emperors represented on the obverse.
