Truism

John Squire, 2008

© The artist

John Squire has been a visual artist for over 20 years as well as being the musical and artistic lead in the Manchester band, the Stone Roses. He created album covers for the band inspired by Jackson Pollock to complement the band's music. Squire's current work is urban and hard-edged, much of it relating to mass produced consumer packaging. This work featured in an exhibition on industrially inspired pieces at Gallery Oldham in 2009. The inscription 'much was decided before you were born' hints at the restrictions that experience begins to impose on the creative process.
