Silver-barrelled Flint-lock Fowling Piece

Bertrand Piraube, 1680

Gun signed on lock by Piraube, pre-eminent among Louis XIV's gunmakers. Barrel is entirely of silver, chiselled and engraved with foliate ornament and gilt figure of Mars at the breech. Mythological figures appear elsewhere on gun.
