This painting is a characteristic example of the powerful influence of Georges Roualt on Major's art, an influence that can also be seen in his religious, still life and figure paintings. Gallery Oldham held a centenary exhibition for Theodore Major in 2008. The museum also purchased 'Wigan Landscape' by Major from the donor with the help of an Art Fund grant.
