Sir Edwin Landseer, 1802–1873

John Landseer (1769-1852) was one of the most important engravers of his time. He campaigned tirelessly for engravers to be awarded full academic status at the Royal Academy. He performed the initial training for his three sons, but then arranged for them to become pupils of the history painter B R Haydon.
