Platter

Tobias Mohl, 2012

© Tobias Møhl

Tobias Møhl belongs to an important generation of Danish glass artists who achieved international recognition in the 1990s becoming particularly notable for their technical innovation. His work strives to marry Venetian techniques with a Scandinavian manner and philosophy. This glass weaver platter on a stand takes the form of a large glass plate and was produced using a number of highly demanding techniques; primarily incalmo (the fusing of two differently coloured sections of glass to form one piece) and cane work, which involves stretching molten glass into long, thin strands then cutting and twisting to form intricate patterns. The resulting design is reminiscent of textile work and, in particular, lace patterns.
