This work was purchased as part of Art Fund Collect at the Craft Council's international fair Collect. Art Fund Collect was a competitive challenge where shortlisted curators of public collections had just one hour to choose an object for their museum or gallery's permanent collection, ahead of private collectors. Aberdeen was among the ten shortlisted institutions and this work was purchased outright by the Art Fund. This piece has many historical and architectural sources and will be used by Aberdeen to contrast with its historic collection of gold and enamel jewellery by James Cromar Watt.
