Art Funded by you

Monumental Vase V

Julian Stair, 2008

© Julian Stair/Photo: Gilmar Ribeiro, g2

This work was purchased by the Art Fund at Collect 2008, the Craft Council's contemporary craft fair, as part of a new £50,000 initiative called Art Fund Collect. The scheme provided curators early access to the fair and the promise of 100% grants allowing them to compete with private collectors and expand their regional collections, whilst raising the profile of public collections of contemporary craft in the UK. Mima was among the ten shortlisted institutions at the preview and this work was purchased outright by the Art Fund. The pot's title is a deliberate reference to its towering scale which is made even more dramatic by the density of its intense grey colour and matt texture.
