Brooch

Giovanni Corvaja, 2010

Nottingham was one of eight museums to win a share of £75,000 to buy their selected object thanks to Art Fund Collect, an initiative in collaboration with the Crafts Council, aimed at championing contemporary craft and increasing its presence in UK collections. The Italian goldsmith Corvaja was trained at the celebrated Padua school of goldsmithing. This astral, meditative piece is made from gold and platinum gossamer and platinum wire. The gossamer is as fine as human hair and is scattered with drops of coloured enamel. The Art Fund presented another work by Corvaja to mima at Art Fund Collect 2010.
