Yorkshire’s military history comes to life at the York Army Museum, home to one of the most important regimental collections in the UK.
The two main collections curated by the museum are from serving regiments The Royal Dragoon Guards and The Yorkshire Regiment. Artefacts and documents explore over 300 years of British Army soldiers who have fought in these regiments on every continent around the world, in nearly all the nation?s wars.
While the displays are global there is a special focus on the regiments? unique connection to Yorkshire ? an interactive programme of events and exhibitions explores Yorkshire?s army history from 1685 to the present day.
The museum has also worked alongside communities to research, document and better understand their local First World War memorials, including not just traditional memorials but also town halls, sports grounds and libraries, made both to honour the fallen and benefit the living.
