The museum is home to an important collection of modern British art, featuring key pieces by Lucien Freud, Leon Kossoff, Frank Auerbach, Alfred Wallis and LS Lowry.
The collection was established in the 1940s when local businessman HJP Bomford donated 21 works to the museum, including two drawings by Henry Moore and an abstract work by Ben Nicholson. It also features an impressive range of studio ceramics.
Further displays focus on local history, archaeology and geology, revealing the story of Swindon's Jurassic past, its connections with the Roman Empire and the more recent social history of the town.
