Spalding Gentlemen’s Society at Ayscoughfee Hall reveals centuries of history, scholarship and culture in the heart of Lincolnshire.

Founded in 1710, the Spalding Gentlemen's Society is one of Britain’s oldest surviving scholarly societies. Its collection is currently housed in Ayscoughfee Hall, while Spalding Gentlemen's Society Museum is closed for refurbishment.

Eclectic displays

The museum holds an extraordinary collection built over three centuries, from archaeology and natural history to rare books and curiosities.

Displays are eclectic and fascinating, reflecting the intellectual curiosity of its founders and members.

Ayscoughfee Hall Museum

The collection is currently housed in Ayscoughfee Hall, a Grade I listed medieval hall with later Tudor and Georgian additions.

Inside, the museum tells the story of Spalding and its people, with displays on local life, civic history and architecture. The building itself, with timber framing and elegant rooms, is a highlight.

Historic gardens

Five acres of historic gardens surround Ayscoughfee Hall. Tree-lined avenues, ornamental lakes and a war memorial by Edwin Lutyens create a tranquil backdrop.
