National Museum of the Royal Navy Portsmouth
With a National Art Pass you get
One of the country's leading maritime museums, devoted to the story of the men and women of the Royal Navy.
Award-winning permanent galleries cover Nelson, his navy, HMS Victory and the Battle of Trafalgar. Highlights include the McCarthy Collection of objects that belonged to Nelson and Emma Hamilton and their daughter Horatia, WL Wyllie's Panorama of Trafalgar and an unrivalled collection of warship figureheads. HMS: Hear My Story recounts the experiences of over 1,000 men and women in the Royal Navy over 100 years.
The Age of Sail display, housed in an 18th-century storehouse, reveals a balanced view of what life was like in the Sailing Navy through hands-on interactive exhibits.
A new permanent display, Silent and Secret, marks the 50th anniversary in 2018 of the initial operational patrol of the Royal Navy's first Polaris SSBN (Submersible Ship Ballistic Nuclear). The exhibition will reveal the challenging nature of working in submarines, highlighting the experiences of those who serve and examining why there is a nuclear deterrent and the role of the modern Royal Navy Submarine Service.
The museum complements a visit to the other attractions in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
