A centre for artistic expression and development, The Royal Cambrian Academy supports Welsh art and artists, in a place where art is encouraged, made, exhibited and debated.
Established in 1882 - when North Wales became a hub for the first artist colony in Britain - the RCA consists of up to one hundred and fifty artist members at any one time. Most are professional artists with a connection to Wales either by birth, Welsh lineage or permanent residence, working across a range of artistic disciplines including painting, sculpture, architecture and printmaking.
As a centre for artistic excellence in Wales, the RCA exhibits and sells member's work through a varied exhibition programme. This includes historical exhibitions, touring shows from the National Museum of Wales the National Library of Wales and displays exhibiting the work of emerging artists. The museum also acts as a lively venue for education and hosts a retail area for locally created arts and crafts.
