Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre
With a National Art Pass you get
Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden brings the writer’s stories to life with hands-on activities, family trails and Dahl’s original Writing Hut.
Pure imagination
Set in the Buckinghamshire village where Roald Dahl lived and wrote for 36 years, the Museum celebrates the beloved storyteller. Highlights include Matilda’s power-pose, Fantastic Mr Fox’s living room and Dahl’s famous Writing Hut, recreated exactly as he left it. Displays include personal treasures, from his RAF flying helmet to the sandal that inspired Quentin Blake’s BFG. Children can dress up as favourite characters and discover peculiar objects, puzzles and curiosities that reveal Dahl’s imagination.
Activities and family fun
Craft tables, storytelling sessions and interactive trails run throughout the year. Free family walks lead visitors into the countryside that inspired many books, including Danny the Champion of the World. The courtyard, entered through the Wonka gates, is a perfect picnic spot.
Inspiring new storytellers
Since opening in 2005, the Museum has welcomed over a million visitors. Schools programmes, workshops and online sessions help children and adults alike discover their inner storyteller.
By sharing Dahl’s archive and creative process, the Museum inspires the idea that everyone has stories waiting to be told.
