Riverside Museum

Glasgow's crown jewel for all things transportation, the museum houses over 3,000 objects covering various modes of transport, from the skateboard to the grand steam locomotive. Opened in 2011, it replaced the former Glasgow Museum of Transport and quickly became a multi-award winning attraction.

Be transported through time

The museum offers a fascinating journey through the evolution of transportation. Explore a vast collection of vehicles, from bicycles to trams. Highlights include the huge locomotive built in Glasgow before being exported to South Africa and the Motorbike Wall displaying 21 motorcycles from over 100 years.

Vintage cars

The Car Wall, lines up over 30 of the museum’s most precious automobiles including Sir William Burrell's Rolls-Royce Phantom ll, an Isle of Arran postal van, a Porsche 911, and a quirky BMW Isetta bubble-car.

Walk down a Glasgow street

Make your way to Main Street, a reconstruction of a Glasgow street scene of the 1890s to 1930s, complete with shops, houses, and bygone forms of transport. Elsewhere you’ll find Car 128, a subway carriage that had been in use since the opening day of the modernised Glasgow subway system in 1980.

Interactive exhibits

Interactive exhibits and hands-on activities make it a fantastic place for families to explore. Climb aboard a tram or bus, pretend to drive a train, or even help put out a fire with an interactive fire engine! With over 90 touch screens offering films, images, and fascinating stories, the museum brings the world of transport to life.
