The museum's collection explores the archaeology and social history of the old county of Montgomeryshire.

From the earliest Stone Age settlers through to the Bronze and Iron Ages, there is a varied collection of Roman finds as well as medieval and post-medieval artefacts.

The social history galleries cover a variety of themes including the Montgomery canal, the local railways, agriculture, Victorian homes and crafts, the Montgomeryshire yeomanry and the two world wars.
