Newport Roman Villa
With a National Art Pass you get
This farmhouse, built around 270 AD, reveals some fascinating details about the Roman way of life on the Isle of Wight.
Newport Roman Villa is an excellent example of a winged corridor farmhouse. One wing contains a suite of bathrooms with hypocaust and hot and cold baths.
Many hands-on activities bring the Roman period to life. Visitors can interact with a full-size Roman kitchen, weave a blanket and make a mosaic.
There's also a replica Roman garden and small museum displaying Roman finds from across the Island.
Look out for The Wild Escape at museums and galleries in the next few months. Many have special events, or you can use our audio introduction to help children get involved at any cultural venue.
