Nelson Museum and Local History Centre

The Nelson Museum holds a major collection of material relating to Lord Horatio Nelson, including personalia, decorative art, naval equipment and manuscripts.

The attached Local History Centre encompasses archaeology, social history and archives of the people of Monmouth, including Charles Rolls (of Rolls Royce fame). There is also a developing collection relating to the Picturesque tour in the Wye Valley.

Opening times

In 2021 Monmouthshire County Council announced plans to move the museum collection to the Shire Hall in Agincourt Square. The five-year project, will see a new museum open at the Shire Hall by 2027
