The Lancashire Archives' collections provide an insight into the lives of people who lived and worked in county from the 12th century to the present day.

They include illuminated manuscripts and charters, drawings and photographs, letters and diaries, a letter of Queen Elizabeth I to the emperor of Cathay, Humphry Repton's Red Book for the grounds of Lathom Hall, Sir Charles Barry's architectural drawings for Gawthorpe Hall, and the archives of Abbott and Co, stained glass manufacturers of Lancaster.
