Harewood House in Leeds was the first country house to incorporate a contemporary art gallery alongside its collection of Old Masters and Chippendale furniture.

Built in the 18th century by Edwin Lascelles, a wealthy plantation owner, Harewood House is a beautiful example of Palladian architecture, designed by renowned architect John Carr.

Opulent interiors

The interiors are a masterpiece of Georgian design, featuring exquisite Robert Adam plasterwork, ornate ceilings, and grand staircases. A collection of Chippendale furniture highlights the craftsmanship of the period. The house is also home to an impressive collection of art with paintings by European masters such as Titian and El Greco, alongside a collection of family portraits by renowned British artist Sir Joshua Reynolds.

The surrounding 1,000 acre estate was designed by famed landscape architect Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. One highlight is the Himalayan Garden, a haven of tranquility, boasts a unique collection of plants from the Himalayan region, including a beautiful stupa, a Buddhist monument. There is also an adventure playground, picnic area, cafe’s and a shop. You might even find the fictional village from the television series Emmerdale.
