Discover a royal regimental heritage that spans nearly four centuries, just a stone's throw from Buckingham Palace, at The Guards Museum.

Originally founded as a teaching aid for new recruits, the resources spanning the history of five regiments of Foot Guards has been open to the public since 1988.

The museum traces the history of the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards, which form part of His Majesty's Household Division.

The collection

The fascinating collection of military artefacts span nearly four centuries, from the English Civil War right up to the present day. You will be able to see how uniforms and equipment changed through time, whilst a growing archive of documents and photographs illustrate the personal stories behind significant events.

Changing of the Guard

The museum is situated about 500 yards from Buckingham Palace, so if you time it right, you could watch the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the palace and then head to the museum to learn more about the longstanding tradition.

As well as uniforms, weapons and memorabilia, there is also a Guards Toy Soldier Centre displaying hundreds of lead soldiers.
