Grantham Museum interprets the Lincolnshire town through its archaeology, various aspects of post-medieval life, local trades and industries.

Founded in the 1890s, the museum is run by the Grantham Community Heritage Association, a group of dedicated volunteers passionate about preserving the town's heritage. The museum itself is housed in a beautiful building that originally served as the town library, funded in part by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.

Themed collection

Permanent exhibits showcase the area's development through various lenses, including agriculture, industry, religion, and local government. Visitors can delve into the life and legacy of scientist Sir Isaac Newton, a famous resident of Grantham, or explore the story of Margaret Thatcher, the UK's first female Prime Minister who was born in the town. The Dambusters Raid, a daring WWII mission conducted by Royal Air Force squadrons, also finds its place within the museum's collection.

Interactive exhibits

The museum brings history to life with interactive exhibits and often host special events and exhibitions that delve deeper into specific aspects of Grantham's heritage.

Mini library

A visit to Grantham Museum isn't complete without exploring their unique gift shop. Here, visitors can find a delightful selection of souvenirs, including Grantham-branded mugs and bags. The gift shop also features a miniature library, where visitors can relax with a cup of coffee or tea (purchased from the shop) and delve into a book about local history.
