Folkestone Artworks is a public art collection on permanent display in spaces around the town on the Kent coast.
Whether you're a seasoned art enthusiast or simply looking for a beautiful and thought-provoking walk, Folkestone Artworks is a unique and accessible way to experience art. There's no museum building or ticket booth – the art is literally all around you.
Contemporary coastline
Discover the UK's largest collection of contemporary outdoor art, spread throughout the scenic town and coastline of Folkestone. With site-specific sculptures, installations, and interventions scattered around the town, Folkestone Artworks transforms the urban environment into a giant, ever-evolving art gallery. The Triennial Festival, held every three years since 2008, adds new pieces to the collection, keeping the exhibition fresh and engaging for both locals and visitors.
Renowned artists
This free, year-round exhibition features the works of 46 renowned artists, including Tracey Emin, Gilbert & George, David Shrigley, Bob and Roberta Smith, Cornelia Parker, and Yoko Ono. Don’t miss Mark Wallinger's Folk Stones, a poignant memorial consisting of 19,240 stones, the exact number of British soldiers lost on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. You could also stumble upon Antony Gormley's Another Time, or Banksy’s Art Buff graffiti.
