Dr Jenner's House

Berkeley

Dr Jenner's House is a beautiful Queen Anne house in the heart of the town of Berkeley and the former home of vaccine pioneer Edward Jenner.

Jenner lived in the house in Gloucestershire from 1785 until his death in 1823. Today it stands as a museum dedicated to his life's work and the enduring impact of vaccines. A must-visit for anyone interested in the history of medicine.

Scientist’s home

Explore the rooms where Jenner lived and worked, gaining insights into his daily life and the environment that fostered his groundbreaking scientific discoveries. The museum also boasts a collection of Jenner's medical instruments, including the lancet used to administer the first vaccine, as well as personal belongings, and original documents related to his medical research.

Temple of Vaccinia

Nestled in the corner of the garden is an unassuming rustic hut. It was here that Jenner performed his first vaccination against smallpox in 1796, and where he ostensibly set up the world’s first free vaccination clinic.
