Located in Halifax’s cultural quarter, Calderdale Industrial Museum showcases the region’s transformation from 17th-century textile craft to 20th-century machine tools.
Explore industrial heritage
Visitors can see working machinery powered by a historic oil engine and discover the evolution of power generation from water wheels to steam and combustion engines. A reconstructed 19th-century coal mine creates an immersive experience.
Diverse displays and local stories
The museum tells stories of local industries including fireclay, stone quarrying, and the manufacturing of famous products, from Mackintosh’s toffees to Crossley carpets. Housed in the former Albion Works next to the Piece Hall, the venue offers a unique glimpse into the area’s industrial diversity over 250 years.
Relax and refresh
After exploring, visitors can enjoy light lunches, cakes and hot drinks in the friendly café. The museum shop also sells distinctive locally made items, making it a perfect place for visitors to unwind and take home a souvenir.
