Housed in a Grade II* listed building, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery offers art, history, archaeology and a world renowned Pre-Raphaelite collection.

The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BMAG) boasts a world-class collection that spans centuries and continents. Founded in 1885, this grand museum houses numerous galleries that journey through human history, science and industry, natural history and artistic expression.

Major British and European art collections

Marvel at significant collections of art by British and European artists, including Renaissance, Pre-Raphaelite, the Dutch Golden Age, and modern and contemporary works of art.

Staffordshire Hoard

One of the museum's most captivating collections is the Staffordshire Hoard, over 3.500 artefacts and fragments of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver metalwork. Unearthed in 2009 by a metal detectorist and dating back to the 7th century, the hoard offers a unique glimpse into Anglo-Saxon art and warfare.

A global perspective

While firmly rooted in Birmingham's story, you can also get a global perspective at BMAG. The ethnography collection features artefacts from across Africa, Asia, and the Americas and the archaeology section unveils treasures from ancient Egypt, Rome, and beyond, allowing visitors to connect with the distant past.

With its diverse collections, engaging exhibitions, and educational programs, BMAG is a must-visit for anyone interested in art, history, and the human experience.
