A former mill owner's house set in 36 acres of parkland and ancient woodland, Bagshaw Museum opened in 1911.
Curator Walter Bagshaw was committed to the 'education of the people of Batley', and his vision was to bring science, nature and a sense of 'the world' to visitors through objects and exhibitions. Bagshaw's vision remains and the museum encourages people to discover life from Batley to Bangalore, uncovering the stories and objects that help reawaken the past and make this museum a special place to visit.
