Charting the history of Andover and Danebury Hillfort, both Andover Museum and the Museum of the Iron Age are located in this 18th-century town house.

With a combined focus on local and Iron Age history, these two museums offer a unique experience, whether you're interested in the everyday lives of medieval townsfolk or the secrets of a major Iron Age settlement.

Andover's Rich History

Explore archaeological finds from the area, including tools and pottery from the prehistoric era and domestic items from medieval times. Exhibits show how the market town has developed and grown, its association with figures like the philanthropist Martha Gale, and the Andover Workhouse scandal.

Unveiling the Iron Age

The Museum of the Iron Age focuses on the nearby Danebury hillfort, one of the most important archaeological sites from the British Iron Age. The museum uses a combination of real artefacts excavated from the site and reconstructions to bring Iron Age to life, like the replica roundhouse where you can handle real Iron Age artefacts.

Family-fun

There is lots for kids too, from the dressing-up corner’s selection of fun and historic themed costumes to family-friendly craft days. Or try to spot the objects hidden around the museum with fun activity sheets.

If you're looking for a place to learn about the history of the area and see some fascinating archaeological finds, then this museum is definitely worth a visit.
