A major retrospective tracking eight decades of energetic abstraction inspired by the landscapes of Cornwall, Scotland and continental Europe.
Tate St Ives presents the first full-career retrospective of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, showcasing over 170 paintings, drawings, prints, and archival materials. The exhibition charts her artistic evolution, beginning with her student work at the Edinburgh College of Art and her pivotal move to Cornwall in 1940. There, she became a key member of the post-war St Ives community of modernist painters and sculptors, developing a unique abstract style rooted in the rhythms, geology, and structures of the natural world.
