This exhibition highlights investigations in glass art made from Recycled, Repurposed, Second-Life, and Geo-Specific glass.
Ten artists from seven countries have been invited to contribute sculptures, stained glass, jewellery and functional objects. Their materials range from discarded bottles, windows and TV tubes to studio scraps, jam jars, and local river sand with shells and bracken.
Irene Frolic (Canada), Frederik Rombach (Belgium), Hannah Gibson (UK), Jeanne-Sophie Aas (Norway), Gregory Alliss (UK), Debbie Dawson (Ireland), Ioana Stelea (Romania) , Mafalda Maya (Portugal), Jeff Zimmer (UK), Lulu Harrison (UK)
Non-traditional glass has been seen as discarded, dirty, difficult. The invited artists focus on the story inherent in the glass itself, its origins, its history, its second life, as much as the personal perspectives they bring to their work – giving evidence to the resilience and beauty of The Other Glass. The exhibition is curated by artist and author Tone Ørvik (Norway).
