Through carefully crafted photographs, Sayuri Ichida explores the changing relationship between sisters, personal memory and the experience of loss. Playing the Piano Upstairs follows the photographer’s journey of reconnecting with her sister after the death of their mother, using images to reflect on a bond that slowly grew stronger.

Set among the snow-covered landscapes of rural Japan, the exhibition combines portraits, natural forms and sculptural details to create quiet, dreamlike scenes. Handcrafted prints on Japanese washi paper capture the fragility of memory, where moments of grief, connection and healing exist together.
