Journey to England's coastal towns through Polly Braden's documentary photographs of young people.
Polly Braden is a documentary photographer who builds close, long-term collaborations with her subjects to spotlight social issues. In this new project, she has travelled across England and Wales to meet the young people living in coastal towns, spanning Blackpool, Grimsby, Scarborough, Tendring and Weston-super-Mare. In these places, young people are more likely to experience poverty, poor housing, and less education and job opportunities than their peers.
Through these intimate photographs, Braden illuminates the creativity, hope and resilience of these coastal communities, building a more nuanced portrait of young people in Britain today.
The exhibition travels to Firstsite in Colchester in October.
