Palestinian artists reimagine a lost 1947 exhibition through contemporary works
A forgotten moment in art history is brought back to life through the work of 53 Palestinian artists from across Palestine and the diaspora. The Lost Paintings: A Prelude to Return responds to an unrealised exhibition by Palestinian-Lebanese artist Maroun Tomb, which disappeared during the upheaval surrounding the establishment of Israel.
Inspired by the surviving titles of his lost paintings, each artist creates a new work exploring themes of memory, identity and history. Together, the artworks form a powerful reflection on cultural loss, artistic legacy and the act of reclaiming stories.
