Tracing the influences of three generations of women artists.
Relative Ties brings together three generations of women artists from the Nicholson family: Mabel Nicholson, Nancy Nicholson, EQ Nicholson and Louisa Creed. Spanning intersections of personal memory and craft history, the works of art and archival material on display reveal how creative legacies are shaped, shared and transformed across matrilineal lines.
Paintings, textiles, wallpapers, rugs, stencils and works on paper show the breadth of their practice, many of which are on public display for the first time. The exhibition spans the early 20th century to today and features a new commission by artist Katie Schwab.
