British portraiture reimagined through a century of striking artworks.
Discover over 100 years of British portraiture, from early 20th-century paintings to contemporary photography and sculpture. Around 50 works explore how artists have challenged traditional ideas of portraiture, capturing self-reflection, family, work and leisure. Some pieces offer imaginative or fantastical interpretations, while others are quietly contemplative.
Featuring notable artists such as Elisabeth Frink, Barbara Hepworth and Bridget Riley, the exhibition encourages visitors to consider the act of looking and being looked at. Many works are displayed publicly for the first time, offering fresh perspectives on modern British art.
