A touring exhibition from Cristea Roberts Gallery
Spatial Impressions presents a rare selection of Naum Gabo’s (1890 – 1977) hand-printed woodblock works from the 1950s, offering an intimate encounter with one of the pioneers of Constructivism. Known primarily as a sculptor, Gabo found in printmaking a reflective studio practice that allowed him to explore geometry, rhythm, and motion with exceptional sensitivity.
These monoprints, produced without editioning, show how changes in colour, paper, and orientation transform the character of a single composition. Through these variations, Gabo expresses his belief that art should reflect the dynamic structures and unseen energies of modern life.
The exhibition highlights the experimental spirit that shaped Gabo’s later career, including his fascination with wave motion and the poetic tension of curved lines.
A touring exhibition from Cristea Roberts Gallery, Spatial Impressions brings to Woking a remarkable body of works that illuminate the ideas and visual language of an artist who transformed twentieth century art
