Major commission of Turner-Prize-winning artist evokes myth of eternal slumber to imagine new political possibilities.
Turner-Prize-winning artist Tai Shani presents The Spell or The Dream, a major new commission at Jupiter Artland. Central to the exhibition is a striking sculpture inspired by the archetypal fairytale image of a sleeping figure in a glass box. The work of art explores myths of enchanted slumber, reflecting on histories of colonialism and environmental collapse while also imagining resistance and new possibilities.
The exhibition is accompanied by a commissioned soundscape by composer Maxwell Sterling which invites audiences to imagine, wonder and dream alongside it.
The commission and touring presentation of this work has been supported by Art Fund.
