Bold, lyrical paintings of Black life by a modern master
This major exhibition celebrates the influential African American artist Kerry James Marshall, known for his vibrant large-scale paintings that centre Black figures and histories long excluded from Western art. Rich with references to art history, civil rights, comics, science fiction and personal memory, Marshall’s work invites reflection on the past while imagining hopeful futures.
Featuring 70 works, including the monumental Knowledge and Wonder (1995), never before shown outside the US, this is the largest exhibition of his work ever staged in Europe.
