Uncover how contemporary artists use textiles in surprising and radical ways.
Bringing together 15 UK-based artists, Material Worlds reveals the diverse and evolving role of textiles in contemporary art. The show presents works created over the past decade that transform textiles from their domestic associations into theatrical, bold and often humorous works of art.
Demonstrating how familiar fabrics can be transformed into thought-provoking works of art, these artists explore themes of gender, identity, community, race, technology and myth. Exhibiting artists include: Caroline Achaintre, Jonathan Baldock, Marc Camille Chaimowicz, Alexandre Da Cunha, Tonico Lemos Auad, Paul Maheke, Anna Perach, Yelena Popova, Yinka Shonibare, Rae-Yen Song, Tenant of Culture and Zadie Xa.
