Marvel at monumental paintings rooted in ancestry and cultural knowledge.
This landmark European exhibition brings together the vibrant, large-scale works of Emily Kam Kngwarray, one of Australia’s most important 20th-century artists. Born in the Northern Territory, Kngwarray expressed her deep connection to her Anmatyerr heritage and Country through richly layered batiks and monumental canvases. Her abstract motifs evoke desert ecosystems, ancestral knowledge and spiritual landscapes, all rooted in lived experience.
Developed with the National Gallery of Australia and featuring textiles, film and audio, this show offers an expansive encounter with her practice, marking the first major European presentation of Kngwarray’s powerful and culturally grounded work.
