Playful mythologies meet fluid forms in a surreal speculative universe.
Saelia Aparicio brings a major new commission to Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, creating an immersive installation that blends myth, humour and identity.
Working across sculpture, video, drawing and mural, she explores everyday paradoxes through an imaginative symbolic language. Her fictional ecosystem merges the organic and social, drawing on classical myth, Ancient Egyptian forms and Mesoamerican creatures. Human, animal and hybrid bodies coexist in a playful, gender-fluid space inspired by the ‘two-spirited’ concept from Indigenous North American culture, inviting visitors to reimagine boundaries and beliefs.
