AI and photography collide in Felicity Hammond’s exploration of machine learning.
Felicity Hammond’s V3: Model Collapse is the third part of her four-stage Variations project, examining AI’s role in photography. The installation uses images and data gathered from each exhibition to train the next, mirroring how machine learning evolves. Hammond presents distorted, AI-generated photographs that reveal the errors and ghostly inconsistencies of digital image creation.
Through painting and collage techniques, these images highlight the uncertain future of photography as AI ‘hallucinates’ and reshapes visual reality, encouraging reflection on the ongoing relationship between technology and image-making.
